What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one part of the many Traditional Chinese medicine’s tools used for centuries.  It involves inserting thin needles into different parts of the body to stimulate the body’s own healing factor.  Acupuncture has been shown to treat many common ailments and chronic diseases more effectively than modern Western medicine.

Dr. Valentin’s philosophy is that optimal health and performance can be attained through the proper balance of exercise, nutrition, and care of the body’s framework (skeleton).

In Acupuncture, good health depends on good energy entering the body (clean air, water, food) and toxins (waste, carbon dioxide) leaving the body.  When this energy, called Qi (CHEE), is imbalanced or the flow interrupted, an acupuncturist will stimulate the body’s own natural healing properties to respond.

Our focus at Active Wellness is on each individual patient to receive unique care specific to their individual needs.   After treating the patient, we educate them in rehabilitation, nutrition, and exercise.  Our ultimate goal for our patients is to gain the opportunity and knowledge they need to adopt a wellness philosophy of health and share their experience with others.

Acupuncture sessions are less than 60 minutes with exam and about 20 minutes for follow up visits.

Dr Valentin outlines a few of the health benefits:

Provides relief for chronic pains such as lower back pain and migraines
Treatment not only causes the body to release natural pain killers, it can also change a patient’s perception of the pain.  Thereby relieving their symptoms.

Relieves stress and anxiety
Treatments geared toward different parts of the body can relieve different types of stress

May help women dealing with infertility
Depending on the presumed causes, we administer acupuncture to women before and after they undergo      in-vitro fertilization.  Acupuncture treatments decrease uterine contractions (which can cause the IVF to fail). It can also increase blood flow to the uterus, which may help the embryo take.

Improves overall health and wellness
Many patients who use acupuncture to improve their overall well-being use it as a preventative health measure.  It boosts your immune system and helps people in stress to continue with their work and enjoy life.
